Over time and use, clamps collect lots of dried glue on them. The resulting buildup makes it hard to move the lower jaw up and down the bar and can also cause you to not make positive registration with the bar which can make your glue-ups not flat.
I wanted to find a way to clean the glue as efficiently as possible and without dedicating to much of my own time to the task. I can clean up to eight clamps at a time. Each clamp takes 1 to 2 hours of soaking in white vinegar to loosen up the glue enough that it wipes off easily with a scotchbrite pad. Incidentally, vinegar is also a good rust remover if you have some rust spots on your clamps.
